When we look at the “for, so that, and in order to” phrases in the New Testament passages about the work of the Holy Spirit, a pattern emerges – The work of the Holy Spirit is God’s plan for the building of His Kingdom. We need Him to do His work, and we can’t pursue the Spirit without pursuing the building of the Church. In this sermon, we look at the ways that the Holy Spirit builds up the church – Conversion, Communion, and Conviction – so that we as believers might also strive to build up the Church in the same ways.
Scriptures Readings: Acts 17:22-34; Psalm 148; 1 Peter 3:8-18; John 15:1-11
The gospel has an answer to our epidemic of loneliness – brotherly love in the Church. It’s one of the ways that knowing Jesus gives us hope – hope that we can share.
Scripture Readings: Acts 6:1-9, 7:2a, 51-60; Psalm 23; 1 Peter 2:13-25; John 10:1-10
Peter exhorts us to “keep our behavior honorable, to bring glory to God”. We look at two arenas of life – relation to the government and slaves and masters – in which we can be good citizens, as long as we can do so and be faithful to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
